Sweet-toothed customers push Lindt sales higher
The chocolate and pralines producer, Lindt and Sprüngli, has reported first-half sales growth of 9.9 per cent compared to the same period last year, with company turnover reaching nearly SFr600 million ($346 million).
In a statement on Tuesday, Lindt and Sprüngli said it expected group sales to slow slightly in the second half. It noted the last months of 1999 had been particularly good because of extra sales linked to the Millennium.
It added that cost reductions and optimising the use of capacity should result in improved operating results for the whole year.
Lindt and Sprüngli said that the most significant features of the market at present were excess capacity in the industry, further consolidation in the retail trade and sales promotion measures based on aggressive pricing policies.
The statement said that 2000 would be another year of investment in North America.
