Swissair is resuming its service to Belgrade for the first time since it was suspended a year ago. It is the first western European airline to restart its regular service since the end of the war in Kosovo.

Swissair had planned to resume flights to the Yugoslav capital last month but decided on a delay in respect of conditions set by the European Union, even though Switzerland is outside the EU.

Last month, Yugoslav airlines, JAT, started flying to Zurich again (pictured). The EU had banned JAT from flying to western European destinations in 1998 in response to the crackdown by Serbian troops against ethnic Albanians living in Kosovo.
