Traffic returns to normal at Swiss border
Traffic has returned to normal at the Swiss border, after French truckers lifted their two-day old blockades. The barriers were dismantled early today after haulage companies reached a deal with the French government on a new labour law and fuel prices.
Traffic has returned to normal at the Swiss border, after French truckers lifted their two-day old blockades. The barriers were dismantled early on Wednesday after haulage companies reached a deal with the French government on a new labour law and fuel prices.
Some of the larger road-blocks are still being dismantled, but French officials said most crossings were now open. Swiss officials at the St. Louis border crossing at Basel said all was now clear, and that there no delays at customs.
At the other main crossing between France and Switzerland, at Bardonnex outside Geneva, officials said everything was back to normal, but warned that delays could be expected later in the day.
An official said at least 2,000 trucks had been held up at the Fréjus crossing between Italy and France, and that many of these were expected to reach the Swiss border this afternoon.
