Zurich Airport stakes claim on Swissair assets

Zurich Airport wants first refusal on some Swissair Group assets Keystone

Zurich Airport says that it has certain rights over some assets of the collapsed Swissair Group that are vital to the running of the airport of Switzerland's biggest city.

Swissair Group and its Swissair airline unit on Friday won court protection from creditors after a liquidity crisis at the flag carrier led to the biggest corporate collapse in the country’s history.

A spokesman for Zurich Airport said the firm had certain rights of first refusal in the case of the sale of Swissair Group’s Swissport ground-handling unit – which takes luggage to and from the planes in Zurich – an on certain assets of other units.

These include information technology unit Atraxis, which runs Zurich Airport’s flight information service and some technical units at SR Technics key to ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft.
