Letters from the ‘king’ of Switzerland
Alfred Escher ‘ruled’ Switzerland for over 30 years, overseeing its modernisation and the construction of the famed Gotthard Tunnel. On Tuesday, a recently completed project dedicated to digitally archiving his personal letters will offer a rare glimpse into the life and mind of the “workaholic” Zurich politician and entrepreneur.
Beyond black-and-white
Often forgotten in favour of the high-productivity Holstein, traditional cattle breeds like the ruddy Evolène are extraordinarily well adapted to their native Alpine environment. On Wednesday, we’ll look at how important it is to keep hardy traditional livestock populations going – especially when the climate is changing.
Self-driving buses
Over the next two years residents in the town of Sion will be guinea pigs in trials of a fleet of new driverless buses. swissinfo.ch will be going along to an early test drive of the nine-passenger, 4.8 metre-long models on Thursday.
