Alfred Escher ‘ruled’ Switzerland for over 30 years, overseeing its modernisation and the construction of the famed Gotthard Tunnel. On Tuesday, a recently completed project dedicated to digitally archiving his personal letters will offer a rare glimpse into the life and mind of the “workaholic” Zurich politician and entrepreneur.
