Whale protest in Swiss mountains
Environmentalists have staged a demonstration on the Jungfraujoch in the Swiss Alps in support of two opponents of the whaling industry in Japan.
The Greenpeace organisation put up an inflatable whale and banners at the popular destination for Asian tourists to call for a fair trial of the two activists who reportedly face prison sentences of up to 18 months.
The two defendants uncovered a corruption scandal and removed a cardboard box of whale meat, according to Greenpeace.
A verdict is expected in September.
Greenpeace said Japanese tourists reacted with caution to Monday’s protest.
