Alexander Wang, a cutting-edge designer educated at New York’s prestigious Parsons design school, picked up the Stella Contemporary Fashion Award in Zurich on Thursday.
The prize is worth €100,000 (SFr151,000), although the winner doesn’t get any cash. Ten per cent of the award goes to purchasing Swiss fabric and the balance is put towards production and marketing.
The Swiss Textile Awards celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2009.
Wang has won the 2008 Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, a $1,000,000 prize. In 2009, he won Womens Wear Designer of the Year.
Wang, a Chinese-American, is working on his first menswear collection.
