Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 9. Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. David Zinman, conductor
Late Romantic. David Zinman and the Tonhalle Orchestra continue their internationally praised Mahler Symphonies cycle with the 9th, the farewell symphony. And furthermore Zinman puts his emphasis on crystal clear transparency. Instead of emotional exaggeration you hear a Mahler played with clockwork precision but nonetheless well dosed punch. However Zinman and his brilliant orchestra catch the listener's ear with depth. Especially the expiration of the 4th movement's Adagio seems to be out of this world.
