Paintings of a mountain with soul

A painting by Kirchner of Davos and the Tinzenhorn Keystone

A Swiss mountain is the theme of an exhibition of works by the German expressionist artist, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, in the Kirchner museum in Davos.

Entitled “Tinzenhorn – Mountain and Soul”, the exhibition features 50 works by Kirchner (1880-1938) who lived in Davos from 1917 until his death. During his stay, the painter and sculptor became fascinated by the nearby 3,172-metre peak, referring to it as the “hieroglyph of the alpine world”.

The pictures in this exhibition are taken from the many paintings, drawings and sketches of the mountain by Kirchner. Museum curator Roland Scotti says they show how the artist found his yearning for paradise in the high alpine world.

The exhibition is in the Kirchner museum until October 22.
