do we need gender diversity? i mean you one or another or in between, i dont recognise more than 3 genders, people who switch gender is the same to me i refer to them by the gender they choose in the end, they dont need a seperate gender in my opinion. I dont see how desire to have sex is gender describing, gender is a biology, sex is an emotion and education.
Language is a social product, from Saussure to Lacan we know that words build worlds. I believe that inclusive language can help to create a better world, wider, more open, with less prejudices.

I find this discussion about genders to be futile. We make everything more and more complicated. The topic can be bwirtftet we, therefore do not become Twitter. There are just differences between female and male. The language is not the only thing that counts, but much more the equal treatment and equality starts in the head with respect to each other. No matter in which language and form we speak or write to each other. You don't have to invent the wheel anymore either. I am 63 and I will write the way I learned. If the next generation wants to change it, they can. It changes however nothing at the respectful handling to each other. Either one has this or not. But since mankind exists we will never be the same. Otherwise we are programmed robots. My conclusion is that today the opinion of egalitarianism prevails and that everything will be better. I put a big question mark there. History proves that this does not work. Wars and oppression are waged because of it. Let's preserve and respect diversity. I find it in all areas more colorful than the uniform mush.
Ich finde diese Diskussion um Geschlechter müssig. Wir machen alles immer komplizierter. Das Thema kann ja bwirtschaftet werden wir, werden deshalb nicht zu Twitter. Es gibt halt Unterschiede zwischen weiblich und männlich. Die Sprache ist nicht das einzige was zählt, sondern viel mehr die Gleichbehandlung und Gleichberechtigung fängt im Kopf an mit Respekt zueinander. Gleichgültig in welcher Sprache und Form wir zueinander sprechen oder schreiben. Man muss das Rad auch nicht mehr erfinden. Ich bin 63 und ich werde so schreiben wie ich es gelernt habe. Will die nächste Generation das ändern kann Sie es tun. Es ändert aber nichts an dem respektvollen Umgang zueinander.Entweder hat man diesen oder nicht. Aber seit die Menschheit besteht wir werden nie gleich sein. Sonst sind wir programmierte Roboter. Mein Fazit heute herrscht die vermehrt die Meinung der Gleichmacherei und das wird alles besser. Ich setze da ein grosses Fragezeichen. Die Geschichte beweist, dass sich das nicht bewährt. Kriege und und Unterdrückung werden deshalb geführt. Lasst uns die Vielfalt erhalten und respektieren. Ich finde es in allen Bereichen bunter als den Einheitsbrei.

Damit ist den Frauen und den Männern nicht gedient. Lass Männer und Frauen einfach so sein und achtet mit Respekt und bei der Arbeit für Gleichberechtigung.

SwissInfo...you'll excuse my very blunt language...it is an absolute PITA (pain in the ass) to reply to a comment. I log in and then I have to search and search to find the person I want to reply to. Why isn't it possible to click on the comment to be responded to and, after logging in, be directed to the person. As they say in German...warum einfach wenn es kompliziert auch geht.

Yes, I do. I understand. My found word does show that it was and is women, not men, who work as midwives. As I described in another comment, language shows society. For example, it used to be said, "the woman is subservient to the man". The woman took care of the family for a long time. She was responsible for the home and the children. The man worked at his job, outside the home and earned the money. This has certainly also shaped the language. The role play has changed now, but the language has remained the same. The language cannot be made "genderless" even if women are not 2nd rate (worth less). There will probably have to be a very long time before this becomes possible, if at all.
Doch doch, ich verstehe das schon. Mein gefundenes Wort zeigt doch, dass es die Frauen, keine Männer waren und sind, die als Hebammen arbeiten. Wie ich in einem anderen Kommentar beschrieb, zeigt sich in der Sprache die Gesellschaft. So hiess es früher, "das Weib ist dem Manne untertan". Die Frau betreute lange die Familie. Sie war für zu Hause und die Kinder zuständig. Der Mann arbeitete im Beruf, ausser Haus und verdiente das Geld. Dies hat sicher auch die Sprache geprägt. Das Rollenspiel hat sich nun geändert, aber die Sprache ist gleich geblieben. Die Sprache kann nicht "Geschlechtslos" gemacht werden, auch wenn die Frauen nicht 2. rangig (weniger wert) sind. Da muss wohl noch eine sehr lange Zeit vergehen, bis dies - wenn überhaupt - möglich wird.

Sprache und Denken gehen Hand in Hand. Wenn ich sage "denke nicht an einen blauen Elephanten", dann passiert genau das Gegenteil: Du denkst an einen blauen Elephanten. Sprache ist nun mal gedankenleitend.
Wenn ich von Brunnenmeistern spreche, sehe ich eine Gruppe Männer vor mir, die für unsere Trinkwasserqualität zuständig sind.
Wenn ich Lehrer und Lehrerinnen meine, dann sage ich 'Lehrer und Lehrerinnen'. Vielleicht sage ich aber auch 'Lehrerinnen und Lehrer' und schon gebe ich meiner Ausdrucksweise wieder eine neue Bedeutung. Gib zu, dass Deine Gedankengänge sich mitbewegen.
Wenn wir also alle Menschen (und nicht nur die Herren der Schöpfung) gedanklich vor uns sehen wollen, dann gibt es verschiedenste Wege, dies auch sprachlich entsprechend zu tun. Die Ausdrucksweise ist uns vielleicht noch nicht so geläufig, aber das lässt sich ändern.
Mit etwas Phantasie und Übung ist es problemlos möglich, alle Menschen sprachlich in unsere Gedanken einzubetten. Neue Ausdrucksformen eröffnen uns neue Sichtweisen und halten unsere Gedankengänge fit.
So unsportlich und unflexibel sind wir Schweizerinnen und Schweizer schliesslich auch wieder nicht, wenn man die Olympiade bedenkt. Oder denken Sie bei Jolanda Neff an einen Mountainbiker?

Die Sache sehe ich aus dem Gesellschaftlichen. Früher und in alten Zeiten war der Mann das Oberhaupt. Solches gibt sich weiter. Kinder machen die Eltern bis ins Unterbewusste nach. Wie zu Hause galt, wird weiter geführt. So dauerte es Generationen, bis Frauen zu den gleichen Rechten kamen und kommen werden. Die Sprache ist aber schon gegeben. Muss ich in die Sprechstunde, muss ich u.U. zur Ärztin. Schreibe ich einen Text hat mir der Arzt etwas verordnet.
Zudem kommt, dass Männer und Frauen, neben dem Körper, auch seelisch nicht gleich sind. Siehe Technik, Mathematik, Physik, schweres grobes Handwerk............. Haben Sie schon Männer an der Harfe gesehen oder Frauen auf der Baustelle. Bei der Flöte sind es auch mehrheitlich Frauen. In der Pflege sind es wieder die Frauen, bei den Floristen auch. Sprechen Sie mit einem Mann oder einer Frau, kommen verschiedene Ausstrahlungen entgegen. Hören Sie zu, worüber gesprochen wird. Frauen haben nicht die gleichen Themen wie die Männer. Oder, verwandeln wir uns in einen Vogel. Da sucht sich das Weibchen seinen Partner.
Meine Meinung ist: Nein Geschlechter können nicht einfach gleich gestellt werden. Es gibt Unterschiede, welche aber nicht gewertet werden sollen. Gleichberechtigung, kann in der Sprache nicht einfach umgesetzt werden.
Die Gleichwertung kann und soll in der Gesellschaft gelebt werden.

A language should follow and depict reality and not vice versa reality should follow the language. Especially since in the language many impossible things are possible like for example sun dweller or Mercurian or world domination, in reality this is not possible today and in the foreseeable future. Therefore, shaping the language to one's own liking can lead to confusion and disappointment. Not to mention economic damage.
Eine Sprache sollte der Realität folgen und diese abbilden und nicht umgekehrt die Realität der Sprache folgen. Zumal in der Sprache ist vieles unmögliche möglich wie zum Beispiel Sonnebewohnerin oder Merkurianer oder die Weltherrschaft, in der Realität ist dies heute und in absehbarer Zukunft nicht möglich. Die Sprache nach dem eigenen Gusto zu gestalten kann daher zu Verwirrungen und Enttäuschungen führen. Von einem wirtschaftlichen Schaden ganz zu schweigen.

We already have the challenge in the West that with the low birth rate, Western cultures will be replaced in the long term by others who have a different view.

Wie sollte langfristig eine geschlechtsneutrale Sprache die Geschlechtervielfalt fördern?
Wir haben jetzt schon im Westen die Herausforderung, dass mit der tiefen Geburtenquote die westlichen Kulturen langfristig durch andere ersetzt werden die eine andere Sichtweise haben.
Und wenn durch eine Geschlechtervielfalt es noch mehr Menschen gibt welche sich als irgend was aber nicht als Mutter oder Vater von eigenen leiblichen Kinder sehen, dann wird die Ablösung der Okzident-Kulturen durch andere Kulturen aus Afrika oder Orient noch schneller voran gehen.
