The small town of Saignelégier in Canton Jura is staging the 97th national horse show this weekend, an event expected to attract over 40,000 spectators.

Some 400 horses will be judged by a panel of experts in various categories of the competition, and there will also be the traditional cross-country racing.

But for many, the highlight is the traditional grand parade through the streets of Saignelégier, which as well as the horses includes folklore groups, bands, cows, sheep, goats and St Bernard dogs – all of them from Canton Valais, one of three guests of honour at the show.
