Röthlin struggles in London Marathon
Swiss marathon runner Viktor Röthlin, the current European champion, has come 11th in the London Marathon.
The 36-year-old had been confident before the 42.2 km race and had set himself a target of 2 hours and 10 minutes. As it turned out, he completed the course in 2 hours, 12 minutes and 43 seconds.
Emmanuel Mutai ran the fastest-ever London Marathon as Kenyans swept the first three places. Compatriot Mary Keitany earned a dominating victory in the women’s race at her first attempt.
Mutai clocked 2 hours, 4 minutes, 40 seconds for the fourth-fastest time ever for a marathon.
Sunday also saw marathon runners making their way around Switzerland’s biggest city in the ninth Zurich Marathon.
As in London, the Kenyans dominated, with John Kialo Kjui winning in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 56 seconds. Compatriot Abraham Tandoi came third, separated by Russia’s Alexei Sokolov. The fastest woman was Svetlana Stanko from Ukraine.
