Sankt Gallen get tough tie in Champions League
The Swiss football champions, Sankt Gallen, have drawn one of the toughest ties possible in the third qualifying round for the Champions League. They are to play the Turkish team, Galatasaray.
The draw on Friday in Geneva paired Sankt Gallen with the team which also won last year’s Uefa Cup, beating Arsenal in the final in Copenhagen.
Galatasaray provided several players for Turkey’s side in the European Championships in June, and are seen as a potent symbol of the emergence of Turkish football.
Sankt Gallen have made a mixed start to the Swiss season, winning one of their first two matches.
Their Champions League qualifying round first leg will be played in two weeks’ time with the return tie a fortnight later.
