Schnyder defeated in Budapest tennis final

Swiss women's tennis number one Patty Schnyder has lost to Ágnes Szávay of Hungary in the final of the Budapest Grand Prix tennis championships.

Szávay won in 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the match in front of her home crowd on Sunday.

Schnyder had to first complete two matches on Saturday after her Friday quarterfinal game was delayed because of rain.

The 21st-ranked Schnyder showed hardly a sign of fatigue in her semifinal, breaking Gallovits’ first service game and winning the first set in less than 30 minutes.

“It wasn’t my best game but the important thing is that I qualified for the final,” Schnyder said afterwards.

Schnyder had been aiming for her 12th singles title on the WTA tour, and her first victory since Bali in September 2008. For Szávay it is her third tournament win.
