Contemporary. Deqing Wen belongs to the 2nd generation Chinese composers gaining worldwide success nowadays. Wen, a Swiss resident, found his style of expression in Geneva after music studies in Geneva itself and Lyon. His music integrates Chinese sound technics along with a calligraphic approach into western composing structures. Wen follows great Chinese poet Bai Juy's motto, accordingly to which pauses create more energy than played notes. This Grammont Portrait comprises recent works by this composer. Wen will be appointed composer in residence at the Davos Festival 2009. You hear his works in interpretations by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Ensemble Contrechamps, Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain, Dennis Russel Davies a.o.
