Switzerland's Ivo Heuberger has caused a first round upset at the World Indoor tournament in Rotterdam, defeating former champion Goran Ivanisevic.

Heuberger beat Ivanisevic, the 1996 winner, in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

The Croatian squandered two break points in the first set, but was harried by an energetic opponent who worked hard to run down almost every ball.

Heuberger played an offensive second set, racking up two break points in the third game. Eight-seed Ivanisevic managed to save them, but attacking play at the net earned Heuberger a break in the fifth game that was enough to clinch victory for the world number 129.
