1938
Government member Philipp Etter of the Catholic Conservative Party was responsible for the content of the so-called Spiritual National Defense. Its aim was to promote and preserve Swiss culture. It stated that the idea of a Swiss state was born neither from race nor flesh, but from the spirit. Spiritual defense found its embodiment in the 1939 national exhibition.
