Nadal proves too tough for Federer

World number one, Spain's Rafael Nadal, has defeated Swiss tennis star Roger Federer 2-1 in the semifinals at the Madrid Open on Saturday.

Federer, currently number three, won the first set in gritty fashion, coming from behind to score a 7-5 win.

Nadal made quick work of Federer in the second set, winning decisively 6-1 and left no uncertainties in the third and final 6-3 set.

The victory stretched Nadal’s latest clay-court winning streak to 37 matches as he goes for his second straight Madrid title in three seasons.

It was the third straight showdown between the two players in Madrid. Federer beat Nadal in 2009 to win the Madrid title, before the Spaniard took revenge last year.
