The Zurich Lions are on their way to lifting one of European ice hockey's most prestigious trophies after beating the Munich Barons 4-1 in Saturday's Continental Cup action in Zurich.

The Swiss champions opened up a 3-0 lead against their German opponents with goals from Edgar Salis, Michel Zeiter and Laurent Müller.

With time running out the Barons pulled one goal back, but a well-placed strike from Peter Jaks restored the Lions’ comfortable margin.

Larry Huras’s side appear to have put their recent bad form in the Swiss domestic league behind them. Saturday’s win was the team’s second of the weekend, following Friday’s 1-0 victory over the London Knights.

The result puts the Lions in top spot ahead of Sunday’s final match against Slovan Bratislava.
