Timber industry groaning under the might of the Swiss franc
The Swiss timber industry has been hard hit by the strong Swiss franc. Many timber cutters were already making a loss before the Swiss National Bank decided to abandon the Swiss franc’s fixed exchange rate with the euro. Now cheap imported wood is putting even more pressure on home-grown timber. The foresters who manage the forests and sawmill bosses are now rethinking their strategy. (SRF/swissinfo.ch)
