Police kept busy after defeat by Turkey
Police fired rubber bullets at Swiss fans clashing with security forces in Bern after Switzerland were eliminated from Euro 2008 by Turkey on Wednesday.
Police arrested 20 people for property damage and theft, said police spokesman Jürg Mosimann. Up to three dozen football fans were involved in the scuffles near the main train station, he said.
Mosimann said only a small minority of the fans in public viewing zones became aggressive.
In Basel, where Turkey scored in the final minutes to beat Switzerland 2-1, police said 25 people were detained.
Most of the 100,000 fans on the streets were peaceful, but some vented their frustration after Turkey's late winner.
Security forces managed to calm the heated situation by intervening rapidly. There were no major fan problems, organisers said.
Medical teams treated 122 people in Basel, including five who were sent to hospital.
