Suspected flu virus cases drop to four
Switzerland has dropped its tally of suspected cases of the H1N1 virus to just four, after 71 people tested negative for the disease.
Those being checked for the so-called “swine flu” are from the cantons of Basel Country, Vaud and Aargau, the Federal Health Office said on Saturday.
There have been 76 suspected cases in Switzerland since the virus spread from its epicentre in Mexico in April, 71 of which tested negative for the disease. One person was confirmed to be infected and has fully recovered after receiving treatment in hospital.
But the health office warned there was a growing risk of infected cases reaching Switzerland as the number of confirmed infections around the world was on the rise.
However a spokesman said the flu “did not yet pose a serious threat to the Swiss population”.
Elsewhere in the world, there have been more than 3,440 confirmed cases worldwide in 29 countries, including more than 1,300 in Mexico and at least 1,639 in the United States.
