ABB wins large order for London substation

The technology group ABB has won an order worth more than SFr130 million to build a new indoor high-voltage substation in the centre of London.

A communiqué from ABB headquarters in Zurich said that the Swiss subsidiary, ABB Switzerland, would have a SFr50 million stake in the deal.

The contract has been placed by National Grid (NGC) ansd is the largest value high-voltage substation order placed by NGC to date.

The project is part of NGC’s programme to upgrade the power grid for North West London and The City area.

The communiqué said that using ABB’s latest compact substation technology and design, the customer can achieve both its environmental and economic goals in Britain’s competitive deregulated power market.
