Voting and elections

Political rights are also guaranteed abroad. This means that all Swiss citizens are entitled to vote in federal elections and referendums, and in some cases also at cantonal and municipal level. To do so, they must be enrolled in the electoral register. However, exercising democratic rights from abroad relies heavily on the postal system as e-voting is only available in Switzerland on a trial basis.
