Hundreds take part in anti-Israel rally

Up to 1,000 people have marched in the capital, Bern, demonstrating against Israel's military attacks against Palestinians in Gaza.

The demonstrators, including many families, held signs equating the Jewish state with Nazi Germany, while others accused Israel of being a “terrorist” state.

The march, organised by pro-Palestinian groups in Switzerland, ended near the Israeli embassy which was sealed off by dozens of policemen.

Participants in the rally also waved Palestinian flags and called for a “free Palestine”.

Further demonstrations are expected to be held across Switzerland on Saturday.

United Nations officials say more than 400 people have been killed and about 2,000 have been wounded in Israel’s campaign.

About a quarter of those killed have been civilians, according to the UN’s Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinians Territories, Maxwell Gaylard.
