Indo-Swiss relations stand the test of time

Two Hands swissinfo.ch

India and Switzerland, respectively the largest and oldest democracies in the world, have always enjoyed good relations.

After independence, India’s first friendship pact happened to be with Switzerland. Business ties have been steadily increasing since the beginning of the 1990s and trade between the two countries is now worth about SFr1.25 billion. Traditionally, the relationship has been characterised by development cooperation. The Swiss government contributes SFr30 million annually in aid. In partnership with both governmental institutions and non-governmental organisations, the Swiss Development Agency works with India’s poorest and most disadvantaged groups.
