Swiss allocate SFr24 million to Burkina Faso

The Swiss government has confirmed its upcoming aid budget for the West African state of Burkina Faso.

Assistance for the next three years will amount to SFr24 million ($19.9 million) to support broad economic and social reforms.

The goal is to establish the necessary conditions for strong and sustainable growth and the alleviation of poverty, according to the Swiss economics ministry.

Aid allocated to Switzerland’s partner countries is conditional on certain agreed performance criteria being met. The money is only released when jointly defined, measurable goals have been reached.

Burkina Faso, with a population of 12 million people, is one of the countries Switzerland has earmarked for priority development assistance.
