Transport and Communications Minister Moritz Leuenberger was re-elected to the cabinet by a joint session of parliament on Wednesday.

He was confirmed with 154 votes in the 245-seat parliament.
The vote is part of a traditional re-election procedure, which follows parliamentary elections. Those were held in October and showed the right-wing Swiss People’s Party gaining the most seats in the House of Representatives.

Moritz Leuenberger: Elected to cabinet in 1995. Social Democrat Transport, Energy and Communications Minister. He is considered an intellectual who is more pragmatic and not as left-leaning as party colleague Dreifuss. Took a prominent role in crucial transport negotiations with European Union and had to settle for compromises. Helped deregulate telecommunications sector and introduced more market-oriented doctrine for federal railways. Fights free-market advocates in nuclear energy and genetically modified food sectors.
