Zurich protest stragglers break camp
A group of protestors have left Zurich’s Paradeplatz after camping out on the plaza following a weekend demonstration for the global Occupy movement.
The main protest in what is the symbolic heart of the Swiss banking industry had attracted around 1,000 people.
Around 40 protestors stayed on but left voluntarily on Monday morning after a request by police to vacate the area. They were expected to head to another location in the city.
Demonstrations took place across the globe on Saturday as part of a day of action protesting against capitalism and austerity measures.
The Zurich protest was peaceful but much of the anger was directed at the banks, with UBS and Credit Suisse front windows plastered with stickers, posters and other written messages.
Events also took place in Geneva, Basel and Bern. Organisers had spread the word through facebook and Twitter.
