Top salaries continue growing

Swiss executives are the envy of their European counterparts. In the year to March the salaries of Switzerland's top managers rose on average 4.3 per cent, and remain the highest on the continent.

This increase is twice as much as was seen in the previous year, according to the annual survey on executive salaries carried out by the Swiss financial newspaper, HandelsZeitung, and the German management consultancy, Kienbaum.

On average the top level of executive salaries rose to SFr243,000, up SFr2,000 on the previous year.

Executives in the second tier of management saw their average salaries rise from SFr162,000 to SFr166,000, while third tier managers earned SFr118,000, up from SFr117,000.

For 71 per cent of the managers surveyed, their salary included a variable component, with the best paid executives receiving up to 18 per cent of their salary in bonuses.
