Ammann flies to success in Oslo
Ski jumper and Olympic champion Simon Ammann has won a first medal for Switzerland at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo, gaining a bronze.
He flew to third place in the large hill ski jump following an excellent second jump of 134.5 metres, which moved him up from eighth place after the first round.
The title went to Austrian rival Gregor Schlierenzauer, who won his first individual gold medal on Thursday, finishing ahead of his compatriot and the favourite Thomas Morgenstern.
Ammann, double Olympic champion in Vancouver and current Swiss Athlete of the Year, was visibly excited about his third place, celebrating on the podium.
“I am really pleased about the medal,” he told Swiss television. “It’s a real prize for me.”
Thursday’s medal was his fourth at a world championships.
