Kosovo thieves make off with Swiss development money
Switzerland's Development Agency says more than DM1 million (SFr800,000) have been stolen from its offices in the Kosovar capital, Pristina. The agency said the thieves also made off with a large amount of electronic equipment.
The thieves are believed to have entered the offices late on Wednesday by climbing onto the roof of the agency building, where they were able to break into the top floor. The agency said they appeared to have heaved the safe containing the money over the balcony into a back courtyard.
The United Nations police force has opened an investigation.
The agency said it was normal practice to keep large sums of cash at its office in Kosovo because only limited banking services are available.
