Swiss cycling champion killed in France

Magali Pache, the Swiss omnium champion, was killed in a road accident on Sunday. A car knocked her over as she was riding to her hotel after a race in France.

Pache, from canton Fribourg, had been competing in the Trophée d’Or, between Châteauneuf and Saint-Armand-Montrond.

The 22-year-old track and time trial specialist had finished 25th in the overall standings of the six stage race. She became the Swiss omnium champion (track) in Zurich last week.

Pache was hit by a car, which went on to collide with her team’s vehicle, slightly injuring two of her teammates from England and Ireland. The driver is being questioned by French police.
