Ambri take hockey top spot

Ambri have taken the lead in Switzerland's First Division ice hockey championships. Ambri replaced Langnau at the top of the table, following Tuesday's matches.

Upstarts Chur failed to continue their winning streak when they were defeated 2-1 by the Ticinese side, Ambri, who are now a point clear of the rest of the First Division teams. Chur was without a goalkeeper in the last minute of the match, allowing Ambri to score both its goals.

Zug, meanwhile, obliterated La-Chaux-de-Fonds 1-5 and were hereby able to consolidate their standing in the league table in second place. Berne managed to come away with a 1-1 draw against evenly-matched Kloten.

In other fixtures championship contenders Langnau were surprisingly beaten by their guests, Rapperswil, 2-4.

Canton Ticino’s Lugano have been dragged down the table by losing to Fribourg, 3-5.

Davos drew 2-2 against reigning Swiss champions ZSC Lions.
