Givaudan’s sales smelling of roses

Sales are up at Givaudan Keystone Archive

The flavours and fragrances group, Givaudan, on Tuesday reported a sales increase of five per cent for the first quarter of the current year to SFr622.9 million ($367.3 million).

Fragrance sales increased 4.5 per cent to SFr298.5 million while flavours were up 5.5 per cent to SFr324.4 million.

Givaudan said sales of fragrance ingredients more than compensated for a decline in the market for pharmaceutical raw materials and Ultraviolet sunscreen filters.

Flavours sales in the Asia-Pacific region were particularly strong due to incoming orders from the beverage, savoury and dairy sectors. North American sales have rebounded slightly after a difficult 2000, while European growth was driven by demand from the domestic market, central Europe and Britain.

Givaudan was spun off from Roche last year.
