Uncorking Swiss wines in Morges
Swiss wines - one of the country's best-kept secrets, will be taking pride of place at the Arvinis wine fair, which runs from March 28 to April 2 in Morges on Lake Geneva.
The organisers of the fair have decided to showcase the variety and high quality of Swiss wines this year to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Swiss Winegrowers and Merchants.
Since 1971, the association has supported small winegrowers who are committed to preserving quality in the face of the trend towards greater mechanisation.
Swiss wines are as varied as the country’s geographical regions. At the Arvinis fair, wine lovers will be able to taste the exceptional Fendant (Chasselas) wines for which canton Valais is justly famous, and compare them with the Pinot Noir wines from the banks of the Rhine River in Northern Switzerland and Merlot from the southern canton of Ticino.
Eric Duret, voted Europe’s best wine waiter in 1998, will be on hand to uncork some of Switzerland’s best bottles of Pinot Noir on March 30, and will host other events during the fair.
More than 150 exhibitors will be showcasing their wines at Arvinis this year.
Tickets cost SFr20 ($12) and the fair is open from 4pm to 10pm on weekdays, and from 11am to 10pm at the weekend.
