Cathay Pacific pulls out of Zurich-Hong Kong route

Cathay Pacific services between Zurich and Hong Kong will be suspended from May Keystone Archive

The Hong Kong-based airline, Cathay Pacific, has announced it is suspending all its direct flights between Zurich and Hong Kong.

The decision will take effect from the beginning of May and will last until at least the end of the year.

A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific in Zurich said the route was not profitable enough to continue a four-times weekly service. The decision to suspend the airline’s Swiss operations would be reassessed in time for a possible reintroduction of the service in 2002, the spokesperson added.

Switzerland’s national carrier, Swissair, will continue to operate six flights a week to Hong Kong out of its international hub in Zurich.
