New booklet offers health care guidance

A newly published booklet provides foreigners living in Switzerland with help in understanding the complexities of the Swiss health system.

The guide, published in 19 languages, helps in finding the right health insurance and understanding how the Swiss health system works.

The 60 pages contain information on what do in an emergency, who to consult in case of special needs or how to get the best insurance rate. Furthermore the booklet also deals with Swiss health care regulations.

Developed by the department of health, the Swiss Red Cross and Swiss Caritas, the booklet can also be helpful to Swiss citizens who are unsure of where to turn in an emergency, or who need help in making decisions with regard to insurance.

The guide has 20 sections, all introduced with a commonly asked question. It gives useful addresses and telephone numbers for insurance, interpreters and patient groups.

The brochure can be ordered on the Internet at www.edmz.ch
