Roche unions demand across the board salary increase

Unions representing workers at the pharmacueticals company, Roche, are demanding a salary increase of five per cent for all employees.

The industrial and construction union presented its demands on Monday before the start of the second round of negotiations. For the last two years, Roche has only granted salary increases on an individual basis.

The first round of talks between management and the unions failed. Union leaders say they fear pay differentials will continue to grow unless Roche changes its policy.

The negotiations at the Basel-based company will be closely watched by other groups in the sector, who have yet to start their own consultations on pay.

The talks between unions and Roche management are to resume on Wednesday.
