Swiss ice hockey league orders audit of clubs
The Swiss national ice hockey league has ordered an independent audit of its clubs to ensure their accounting procedures are up to scratch.
The consultancy firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), has been asked to examine the accounting procedures of all 23 A and B division teams which make up the league.
The audit could have serious implications for next year’s championship, because clubs that fail to meet the standards of the audit risk not having their licences renewed.
Representatives of the national league and PWC have still to decide on the guidelines of the audit, in particular the date by which the clubs will have to submit their accounts for review.
Teams have left the national league before because of financial difficulties: in the 1980s, Davos and Arosa chose voluntary relegation from the premier division in the face of cash problems.
