Train complaints rise despite record punctuality
Almost nine out of ten passengers on Swiss Federal Railways reached their destination with less than a three-minute delay last year.
But despite this record performance, the number of complaints rose from 19,800 in 2010 to more than 25,000 – another record.
According to the federal railways, almost a million people use its trains every day, and 89.8 per cent of them arrive within three minutes of the scheduled time.
But spokesman Christian Ginsig explained how more people who had been delayed were asking for their money back – last year the railways paid out around SFr2.2 million ($2.4 million) in compensation or refunds.
SFr100,000 went towards lost or damaged luggage, while half a million francs covered passengers who found themselves stranded at night and needed either a taxi or a hotel bed.
