Thousands follow tax amnesty call
At least 4,500 Swiss residents took advantage of a tax amnesty in 2010, according to research by the Swiss News Agency.
The agency said 4,489 delinquent taxpayers in 21 cantons came forward last year. Five cantons did not reveal any details.
Canton Zurich saw the greatest number of people owning up – around 1,400 – declaring SFr666 million ($690 million) of previously untaxed assets.
In comparison, canton Geneva could win over only 293 people to the amnesty. This brought SFr75 million in additional tax income to the government.
It is not yet clear how much money in taxes the amnesty has generated since not all cantons provided full details.
