Trade with Canada gets a boost

Switzerland’s foreign trade promotion unit, Osec, has opened a Swiss Business Hub (SBH) in Canada’s largest city, Toronto.

The goal of the centre is to support entrance into the Canadian market of small and medium sized companies from Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The new Canadian hub will have satellite offices in Vancouver and Montreal.

The SBH Canada is the 18th set up by Osec around the world in partnership with the Swiss foreign ministry.

In a statement, Osec said Canada represented a key growth market and was currently the sixth-most important for Swiss exporters outside Europe.

Exports to Canada were valued at SFr2.5 billion ($2.57 billion) in 2009, and had risen by 15 per cent in the first 11 months of 2010.
