In collaboration with nine partner charities, the organisation is providing emergency aid in the hunger- and drought-affected region.

Director Félix Bollmann announced on Thursday that Swiss Solidarity had raised exactly SFr19,838,627 in donations for the Horn of Africa. The fund is led by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, swissinfo.ch’s parent company.

Bollmann said he was very pleased with the results and the support of the Swiss population.

The money will be used to provide food, water and medical supplies as well as agricultural and infrastructure support.

Despite international relief efforts, the situation in Africa is still critical. Every day, several thousand refugees flee from southern Somalia into neighbouring countries.
