Alfred Zimmerlin

Swiss composer Alfred Zimmerlin was born in 1955 in Schönenwerd, canton Solothurn. He studied musicology with Kurt von Fischer, ethnomusicology with Wolfgang Laade at Zurich University and composition with Hans Wüthrich and Hans-Ulrich Lehmann. In 2001 he accepted an invitation from the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia to take up a residency in Cairo and was in 2005 awarded the Prize of the UBS Culture Foundation. Since 2010 he has been a lecturer in free improvisation at the Basle Music Academy at the University of Music.
