Bern and Cairo prepare cultural goods accord
Switzerland and Egypt plan to fight together against the theft and illegal trafficking of cultural goods.
Swiss President Pascal Couchepin, who is in Cairo on an official visit, and the Egyptian culture minister, Farouk Hosni, signed a declaration of intent on the issue on Wednesday.
An accord between the two countries is expected to be ready for signing at the Geneva book fair in April.
Under the terms of the proposed agreement, archaeological goods in particular that are illegally imported will be returned to the partner country.
Switzerland already has similar agreements with Italy, Peru and Greece.
