Heiri Känzig Quintet: Paris – Buenos Aires
Jazz / World. Seasoned double-bass heavyweight Heiri Känzig is a lover of pure and sentimental melodies with a folkloristic tinge. His terrific, former recording projects Ethno-Netto and Lyoba especially, the latter together with Thierry Lang, gave old Swiss folk tunes a spherical yet rocking aura. These days Känzig is at his peak and presents the quintessence of his artistry with his latest band Buenos Aires. Their current album Paris-Buenos Aires is a musical journey which showcases Michael Zisman's bandoneon melomania alongside contributions full of esprit by flugelhornist Mathieu Michel and drummer Lionel Friedli from French-speaking Switzerland. Yet, it's the bandleader's unmistakable round and warm tone which gingerly guides the ensemble through this transatlantic affair.
