Paléo to end with a bang

The 33rd Paléo – Switzerland's biggest open-air music event – wraps up on Sunday with its traditional firework display and music from US band REM.

The sold-out festival, at Nyon on the shores of Lake Geneva, attracted around 225,000 music lovers – 37,000 for the six nights.

Although the Paléo this year featured top international names such as French-born alternative rocker Manu Chao and Lebanese-born singer Mika, the proportion of Swiss in the audience from the German-speaking part of the country was little more than four per cent.

Paléo was the name of a successful racehorse and in 1975 became the name of a Nyon-based cultural association involved in organising concerts. This name was adopted by the festival in 1983.
