Pop stars melt snow in eastern Alps
Sting, Nena and Manfred Mann's Earth Band will be taking to the stage at the Spring Snow Festival in the twin alpine resorts of Samnaun and Ischgl, which is held over three weekends from April 15 to April 30.
The German singer, Nena – who became an overnight star with her 1980s hit, “99 Luftballons” – will kick off the festival on April 15 in the Austrian resort of Ischgl.
She’ll be followed a week later by the English group, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, who’ll perform on the open air stage in Samnaun. An appearance by Sting at the end of the month will bring the festival – and the winter season in the cross-border ski region – to a rocking end.
The concerts are free to all guests at the resorts.
Samnaun, situated in a side-valley in eastern Switzerland, lies at 1,800 metres above sea level. Its thermal bath is said to be the highest in Switzerland, and the resort also has the distinction of being a duty-free zone.
Cable cars connect Samnaun to the large Austrian resort of Ischgl.
