Snow and symphony in St Moritz
St Moritz has for the fifth year in a row invited world-class soloists and orchestras to take part in its Snow and Symphony festival.
The concept of the festival is simple and exclusive: letting top acts perform from the stages of the luxury hotels of St Moritz and the Upper Engadine Valley.
This year’s nine-day event opens on March 15 at the legendary Palace hotel with a performance by the “Filarmonica Marchigiana” under the direction of Austrian conductor, Gustav Kuhn, and a children’s choir.
There will also be a premiere of an orchestral composition by the internationally renowned composer, Martin Derungs. It was commissioned especially for the festival.
On March 18 at the Corvatsch mountain station, the festival director, Peter Aronsky, will tickle the ivory, while the “Les Rossyann” music clowns will tickle funny bones.
This exclusive evening costs SFr180 per person, and includes cable car ticket, gala dinner and an accompanying ski instructor.
The most unusual concert venue this year will be the Albanatscha power station. Sergei Nakariakov, known as the Paganini of the trumpet, will perform Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations here on March 16.
Switzerland’s own jazz legend, George Gruntz, will lead a “jazz and lunch” session at the Corviglia mountain station on March 23.
